Augustus Andrews, popularly known as Chairman Nana Kwasi, Ashanti regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress has said that government’s decision to stop Ghanaians from paying water bills for a period of three months is useless.

According to Nana Kwasi, what government should have done was to reduce fuel and electricity tariffs drastically amidst the Lockdown directives by president Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, this he said would benefit alot of Ghanaians than the so-called non payment of water bills.

He said about 70% of Ghanaians don’t have water or pipes in their various homes and they usually buy from outside without waiting for monthly bills so cutting down water cost will have no direct benefit to the ordinary Ghanaian who buys water with the little coin daily.

It is on record that President Nana Akufo-Addo  stated yesterday that over the next three months, residents across Ghana will not pay water bills.

The move seeks to ease the plight of Ghanaians in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country but Chairman Nana Kwasi indicated the move is not what Ghanaians needed.

The president says for the months of April, May and June 2020 no water bill should be paid.

Ghana currently has 214 confirmed cases of coronavirus and five deaths related to the virus.

The President says water tankers will be mobilized to places where residents do not have pipes running through their homes.
