Philanthropist enrolled over 200 physically challenged on NHIS to have access to affordable healthcare

Mr. Pious Vincent Abakah, a philanthropist and  Head of Operations for Nyonkopa Cocoa Buying limited a subsidiary of Barry–Callebaut, has single handedly registered and enrolled over two hundred (200) people living with physically challenged in the National Health Insurance Scheme, while renewed others registered cards which were expired in Sefwi Asawinso and its surrounding communities.  According to him, the gesture is to enable them benefit and to have access to government affordable health care policy through the National Health Scheme.  He explained that, it came into reality, when the leadership of Ghana Society of Physically Challenged Association in the Western North region approached him for assistance to help them register on the National Health Insurance since they have never been able to enrolled on the Scheme, while those who had registered and personally registered and acquired their Cards were struggling to renew their expired cards for some time now. This he said touched him as a citizen from the area, hence the response in delivering upon their heart desires to ensure that he fulfill the promise.  He moreover disclosed that, the gesture was not the first of its kind, but had done several benevolent initiatives including projects to help the needy students with teaching and learning materials in most of the primary school in the Asawinso and other communities in the Western North region. He was of the view that, Disability does not mean inability because all over the world when it’s comes to critical thinkers, you can count on the physically challenged, and entreated them to also look out for great people with great ideas who have done a lot with Computers to move their nations forward, and for that matter, emulate such pace setters in the society to acquire inspirations from them.  He challenged them to channel their energies into productive things that will uplift their livelihoods.  Mr. Samuel Kwabena Kwablah, President for the Western North Society for the Ghana Society for the Physically challenged, expressed the association profound gratitude to Mr Pious Abakah for his quick intervention in getting the Disabled on the National Health Insurance Scheme.  He disclosed that, the physically challenged has been denying access to basic Health care is a double agony and asked that Private participation into solving issues affecting the disabled. He disclosed that, it’s very necessary for championing the campaign for a good livelihood for the disabled since the Government and its agents cannot do it alone. And underscored the need for the disabled to channel their energies into project and activities that will help build the Communities and the nations as a whole.  He commended the Manager and the staff of the Sefwi Wiawso National Health Insurance Authority for the selfless job done in getting the beneficiaries enrolled into the scheme.    Source :broadcastergh.com /Ernest Best
