In a significant move to strengthen Ghana’s global presence and foster economic growth, President John Dramani Mahama is set to undertake an official two-country visit to Japan and Singapore, commencing on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
According to a statement released by the Presidency Communications, the visit aims to deepen bilateral relations, expand trade and investment links, and advance cooperation on shared development priorities between Ghana and the two Asian nations.
During his visit to Japan, President Mahama will participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he will deliver a keynote address at a plenary session focused on “The Economy: Promoting Trade and Investment.” This conference provides a crucial platform for African leaders to engage with international partners on development issues.
In addition to his participation in TICAD IX, President Mahama will lead a Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, designed to showcase the country’s investment opportunities and highlight the “Resetting Ghana” agenda. The forum is expected to attract potential investors and promote Ghana as a viable destination for foreign investment.
The President’s itinerary in Japan also includes a series of high-level bilateral meetings with key Japanese stakeholders, including the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), senior representatives of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. These discussions will focus on enhancing trade, investment, technical cooperation, and infrastructure partnerships between the two countries.
Following his engagements in Japan, President Mahama will travel to Singapore for a three-day state visit. The visit will feature a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum. The President will also address an investment forum, where he will outline Ghana’s reform and investment priorities and seek to strengthen private-sector linkages between Ghana and Singapore-based investors.
The visits to Japan and Singapore are part of Ghana’s broader strategy to attract investment, broaden market access for Ghanaian goods and services, mobilize technical and development cooperation, and bolster partnerships in key sectors such as technology, infrastructure, finance, and human capital development.
As Ghana continues to navigate the complexities of global economic dynamics, President Mahama’s diplomatic mission underscores the country’s commitment to proactive engagement and collaboration with international partners. The outcomes of this visit are expected to have a positive impact on Ghana’s economic trajectory and contribute to the nation’s development aspirations.
