The Kotokuom Bridge in the Atwima Mponua District has been officially commissioned after undergoing major refurbishment. The ceremony, held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Kotokuom R/C Park, was attended by traditional leaders, government officials, Assembly members, and residents who had long awaited the completion of the project.

A Significant Milestone
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak, described the day as a significant milestone for the district. He noted that the bridge project was born out of collective efforts that began during the 2024 election campaign period. The old bridge, which spanned the Offin River, had become a death trap, causing frequent accidents and restricting the movement of farmers, traders, and cocoa transporters.

Impact on Livelihoods
Hon. Issahak explained that with the bridge out of use, many livelihoods suffered as heavy-duty vehicles were not permitted to cross. This slowed down cocoa buying and other business activities. However, with the refurbished bridge, the district can now expect improved connectivity, facilitated trade, and enhanced access to health and education services.

Benefits of the Bridge
The refurbished Kotokuom Bridge is expected to:

– *Ease transportation challenges*: Improve the movement of goods and services across the district and beyond.
– *Strengthen economic activities*: Open up new economic opportunities and facilitate trade.
– *Improve access to services*: Enhance access to health and education services for residents.

Call to Action
Hon. Issahak urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure by ensuring its maintenance. “Let us work together to safeguard this investment and build a prosperous and developed district,” he said. The DCE also expressed gratitude to the Minister for Roads and Highways, the Deputy Minister, the Regional Minister, Assembly members, traditional authorities, and NDC executives for their contributions and support toward the development of Atwima Mponua.
