Authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have officially informed officials of the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) to evict dealers in second-hand clothing who have currently encroached the railways for commercial activities.
KMA per a press release dated 11 March 2021, signed by the Public Relations Officer Henrietta A.K. Aboagye has underlined that the railways has not been allocated or designated to any trader including the second-hand clothing dealers for any commercial activity.
As a way of dealing with the illegality in question, authorities said they have formally drawn the attention of GRDA to clear all the encroachers so as to make way for the construction of the Kumasi–Kaasi Section of the Western Railway line.

“The attention of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has been drawn to some unauthorized trading activities at Adum Railways and claims by some group of traders that the Railways has been designed as a relocation site by the Assembly.
The KMA would like to state categorically that the Assembly has not allocated or designated the said site to any trader including the second-hand Clothing Dealers for any trading activities.
In furtherance to this, the Assembly has been officially written to the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) on the need to clear all encroaches within the Right-of-Way to make room for the construction of the Kumasi – Kaasi Section of the Western Railway line via a letter referenced ZA121/384/06 dated 23rdFebruary,2021.
The KMA is by this release urging all traders, especially the second-hand clothing dealers to vacate the said area and move to the Nana Afia Kobi (Abinkyi) or Race Course Markets where they have been officially relocated to.
All traders who are currently trading on or intend to move to the said parcel of land instead of the designated relocation sites do so at their own peril.
The Assembly will not be responsible for such traders…END..
