Authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) have commenced the distribution of 66,000 nose masks and 2,400 boxes of sanitizers to 105 government schools, traders, journalists, transport operators, police personnel among others who fall within the jurisdiction of the assembly.

The distribution of the items kick-started on Thursday 11th March 2021 at the Asem cluster of schools of the Subin sub-metro. Students of Bantama State Boys M/A Primary were the next beneficiary who received theirs after the former.

Names of some of other sub-metros and institutions who have been marked to benefit are the Nhyiaeso Sub-metro (Adiebeba M/A, State Experimental, Suntreso-Patase), Bantama Sub-metro (Akosa M/A, Adumanu M/A), Manhyia North Sub-metro (Buokrom EMA, Duase M/A, AL-Tawheed Islamic), Manhyia South sub-metro (Afua Serwa Kobi, KO ABC, Wesley College).

The COVID-19 PPEs were presented by the City Mayor Hon Osei Asssibey with the support of the Metro Education Director…, staff of the metro education unit, staff of the Public Relations Department of the assembly among others.

Traders within Subin sub-metro will be receiving 60 boxes of sanitizers and 4,000 pieces of nose masks, Bantama market 40 boxes of sanitizers and 2,000 pieces of nose masks.

Lorry stations 80 boxes of sanitizers and 4,000 pieces of nose masks, Prison 40 boxes of sanitizers and 2000 pieces of nose masks, Central Police Station 30 boxes of sanitizers and 1,000 pieces of nose masks, FM stations 150 boxes of sanitizers and 4,000 pieces of nose masks.

Presenting the items to the leadership of the schools, Hon Osei Assibey (City Mayor) underlined the move as part of the Assembly’s fight against the spread of the coronavirus. According to him, the assembly has taken it upon itself to ensure that all schools and institutions under its jurisdiction are well defended against the virus, hence the need for the dispensing of the PPEs.
