Safety First: Ashanti Regional Minister Takes Decisive Action at Disputed Mining Site At Manso Tontokrom

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has visited the disputed mining concession at Manso Tontokrom to assess the situation and assure stakeholders of the government’s commitment to resolving the impasse peacefully and fairly.

During the visit, Dr. Amoakohene was accompanied by representatives from the Minerals Commission, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Regional Security Council (REGSEC), the District Chief Executive (DCE), and other stakeholders.

As part of immediate safety measures, the Minister directed that all miners below the age of 18 be removed from the site, citing concerns about child labor and exploitation. Additionally, he instructed that all abandoned pits be covered without delay to prevent accidents and protect community members.

Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that the government’s responsibility extends beyond resolving disputes to protecting lives, livelihoods, and the environment. He expressed confidence that with calm, dialogue, and cooperation, a lasting solution can be found that serves the best interests of the community, Asanko, and the nation.

The Minister’s visit demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing the mining sector in Ghana and ensuring that mining activities are carried out in a safe, responsible, and environmentally sustainable manner.
