The race for the chairmanship of the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region has entered a new phase following the emergence of Captain (Rtd.) Reuben Solomon Jabari as the first candidate on the ballot paper.
Captain (Rtd.) Jabari, a former Chairman of the Island City Branch of the NDC and one of the leading contenders in the constituency chairmanship race, secured the coveted first position during a balloting exercise held at Twedie on Friday, September 25, 2026.
The development has injected fresh energy into the contest, with supporters of the retired military officer expressing optimism about his prospects ahead of the constituency elections.
The incumbent Constituency Chairman, Hon. Simon Alooga, secured the second position on the ballot paper.
Speaking to journalists after the balloting exercise, Captain (Rtd.) Jabari expressed confidence in his chances of securing the chairmanship position.
He described his emergence at the top of the ballot as a positive sign for his campaign, saying the outcome had further strengthened his determination to lead the constituency.
“After the vetting, I pulled the first position on the ballot paper, meaning in the upcoming Constituency primaries I will win as Chairman for this Constituency,” he stated.
According to him, the ballot position would provide his supporters with a clear identity as they mobilise ahead of the elections.
He said the development had given him renewed confidence as the campaign enters a critical stage.
Captain (Rtd.) Jabari also sought to attach political significance to the positions secured by the two leading contenders.
He argued that his first position was an indication that the chairmanship position could change hands, while suggesting that the incumbent’s second position should be seen as a signal of a possible change in leadership.
Despite his confidence and competitive posture, Captain (Rtd.) Jabari called on all aspirants, supporters and members of the NDC in Atwima Kwanwoma to ensure that the contest remained peaceful.
He urged party members to resist any form of provocation and violence before, during and after the constituency elections.
He said the interest of the NDC should remain paramount and urged members to put the unity and future of the party ahead of individual ambitions.
According to him, disagreements and competition were normal features of internal party elections, but such differences should not be allowed to destroy the party’s organisational structures.
He therefore appealed to his supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and respect the electoral process.
Discipline At The Centre
Captain (Rtd.) Jabari has also placed discipline at the heart of his proposed leadership agenda.
He said that should he be elected as the next Constituency Chairman, he would establish a committee specifically tasked with promoting discipline within the constituency.
The proposed committee, he explained, would help ensure that party members adhered to the rules, regulations and structures of the NDC.
He maintained that a disciplined party organisation would be better positioned to mobilise members, resolve internal disputes and work effectively towards the party’s objectives.
His emphasis on discipline, he said, formed part of his broader vision to strengthen the constituency and promote unity among members.
Race Intensifies
With the balloting exercise now completed, attention is expected to shift towards intensified grassroots mobilisation as the various contenders seek to consolidate their support across the constituency.
The contest between Captain (Rtd.) Jabari and the incumbent, Hon. Simon Alooga, is expected to attract considerable interest among party supporters as the election approaches.
For Captain (Rtd.) Jabari, however, the campaign now has a simple rallying point—Number One on the ballot.
He is expected to use the position to further mobilise his supporters while pushing his message of discipline, unity and effective leadership.
The constituency elections will ultimately determine whether the incumbent retains his position or whether Captain (Rtd.) Jabari succeeds in his bid to take over the leadership of the Atwima Kwanwoma NDC.
