A day’s capacity building media training workshop was organised by Strategic Youth Network for Development ( SYND) an NGO working in youth inclusion in the governance of the natural resources in the Environmental sector for media personnel in Accra at the Miklin hotel.
The media personnel were engaged on Banks and Biodiversity No Go Policy.
This gives banks the chance to undo the damage that has been done to the environment.
The media has the mandate of understanding such issues to know how to report in order to address biodiversity loss in the country.
Mr. Solomon Yamoah, Team Focal Point for Forestry in his remarks said media practitioners have a unique responsibility to inform and educate the public about critical issues affecting our environment, such as the importance of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
Mr. Chibeze Ezekiel Executive Director, Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND) in his presentation to media personnel said it is vital that we take up this challenge and use our voices to create awareness about the significant impact of financial institutions on our planet’s well being.
He said we must work together to encourage financial institutions to prioritize funding for environmental-friendly.
Projects that promote sustainable development and protect our natural resources can help build a more resilient and sustainable future for generations to come.
The sustainability of our environment and the preservation of biodiversity overall are greatly influenced by banks .
Being the voice of the people and bridging the political divide is the media’s primary function in the society.
Madam Gifty Agbenyefia, Team Focal Point on Biodiversity and Team Lead in Communication, in her presentation to the media personnel at the workshop said, the justification for the adoption of the Banks and Biodiversity No Go Policy, highlighted on numerous incidents that demonstrates the negative impact of human activity on sensitive ecosystem.
These are often home threatened and endangered species, they have experienced significant losses in biodiversity, and are increasingly being encroached upon for development purposes.
There were breakout session in which media personnel exchanged ideas on how to raise awareness of the Banks and Biodiversity No Go Policy and to encourage banks to support green projects .
We discussed various strategies for reaching out to our audience, such as using social media campaigns, radio broadcasts, newspapers articles, and Television documentaries.
We recognized the importance of highlighting the benefits of sustainable projects and how we can positively impact both the environment and the economy.
At the end of the capacity building training workshop, there was an agreement on all media personnel to report on issues affecting the environment for us to have a good place to live……Story by Bugbila Moadow.
