The Suame Municipal Education Director, Pastor Dr Anthony Anyamesem-Poku, has identified the welfare of teachers in the Municipality as a priority of the directorate.
According to him, the Municipality has effectively established an adhoc welfare policy to support teachers who are battling with illness.
Pastor Dr Anyamesem-Poku spelt these out when he led a team of officers and selected headteachers to present Gh7,500 to Madam Gifty Darko, a teacher at Kronum M/A Primary ‘A’ School , who was recently
discharged from the Emergency Unit of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The other beneficiary, Madam Mavis Osei Barnieh, School Support Improvement Officer (SISO) for Suame Circuit also received an amount of GH5,000 for her continuous hospitalization due to her serious health related problems.
The Education Director, disclosed that since the inception of the welfare policy, the directorate last year donated GH24,000 to some sick teachers and families of departed teachers.
According to him, the welfare policy is one of its kind in the country since there is no other district which has such policy.
He explained that both teaching and non- teacher staff in the Municipality, collectively contribute towards assisting teachers who are hospitalized and bereaved families of departed teachers.
According to him, upon death of a teacher, the directorate also makes investment worth GH5,000 to the children of departed teachers to help improve their living conditions.
He advised both teaching and non-teaching staff of Pentecost Senior High School, the only public second cycle institution in the municipality, to join the scheme since the directorate can not turn blind eye to their predicament.
Pastor Anyamesem-Poku therefore encouraged teachers to deliver their best to help improve teaching and learning in the municipality.
