Dr. Prince Nelson Mortoti, Chief Executive Officer of PIWAK Natural Health and producer of the popular 3P Garlic Mixture, has raised concern over the increasing number of men silently suffering from piles, medically known as hemorrhoids, due to fear, stigma, and lack of proper medical attention.
According to Dr. Mortoti, piles have become one of the most ignored health conditions among men, despite the severe pain, discomfort, and complications associated with the disease when left untreated.
Speaking during a health awareness engagement, he stressed that many men continue to endure the condition in silence until it becomes severe and difficult to manage.
“Many men are suffering quietly because they feel shy discussing piles or seeking treatment early. Unfortunately, delaying treatment can lead to serious health complications that affect one’s daily life, work productivity, emotional well-being, and overall health,” he stated.
Understanding Piles
Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, are swollen veins located in the lower rectum or around the anus. They may occur internally or externally and are commonly caused by excessive straining during bowel movements, chronic constipation, prolonged sitting, obesity, low-fiber diets, heavy lifting, and poor lifestyle habits.
Dr. Mortoti explained that although piles may initially appear mild, the condition can gradually worsen if proper care and medical attention are not sought.
Symptoms often include:
Severe pain during bowel movements
Bleeding from the anus
Itching and irritation
Swelling around the anal area
Difficulty sitting comfortably
Discomfort during daily activities
He noted that many men mistake persistent bleeding for ordinary piles without seeking medical examination, a situation he described as dangerous because certain symptoms may also indicate more serious medical conditions.
Serious Dangers Associated with Untreated Piles
Dr. Mortoti warned that untreated piles can lead to significant complications, especially among men who ignore early warning signs.
According to him, one of the major dangers is excessive bleeding, which may eventually lead to anemia and weakness due to loss of blood over time.
“In severe cases, individuals may become constantly weak, dizzy, tired, and unable to perform normal activities because of continuous blood loss,” he explained.
He further noted that prolonged piles can result in painful blood clots known as thrombosed hemorrhoids, a condition that causes intense pain and swelling around the anus.
Another major concern, he said, is infection. When piles become inflamed or injured, bacteria can easily enter affected areas, leading to infections and additional health complications.
Dr. Mortoti also highlighted the psychological effects of piles on men, explaining that chronic pain and discomfort often affect confidence, concentration, emotional stability, and social interaction.
“Some men become withdrawn, frustrated, stressed, and uncomfortable in public spaces because sitting for long periods becomes painful,” he noted.
Lifestyle Habits Increasing Cases Among Men
The CEO of PIWAK Natural Health attributed the rising cases of piles among men to poor dietary choices, sedentary lifestyles, alcohol consumption, smoking, inadequate water intake, and lack of regular exercise.
He warned that many office workers, drivers, traders, and individuals who sit for long hours without physical activity are increasingly at risk.
“Modern lifestyles have contributed significantly to the rise in piles cases. Fast foods, low-fiber diets, and lack of movement are becoming dangerous habits,” he emphasized.
Dr. Mortoti encouraged men to prioritize healthy eating habits by consuming more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and water to improve digestion and reduce constipation.
He also advised regular physical exercise and avoiding excessive straining during bowel movements.
Importance of Early Medical Attention
Dr. Mortoti urged men not to self-diagnose or rely entirely on misinformation from social media or unverified sources.
He stressed that early medical consultation remains critical for proper diagnosis and treatment.
“Any persistent anal bleeding should never be ignored. People should seek professional medical advice immediately because not every bleeding condition is ordinary piles,” he cautioned.
According to him, early treatment not only prevents complications but also improves quality of life and reduces unnecessary suffering.
Natural Health and Wellness Advocacy
Through PIWAK Natural Health, Dr. Mortoti said the company continues to promote natural wellness, healthy living, disease prevention, and public health education across Ghana.
He explained that the company’s health advocacy campaigns aim to educate the public on preventable diseases and encourage healthier lifestyles among Ghanaians.
Dr. Mortoti further called on health authorities, community leaders, media organizations, and civil society groups to intensify education on piles and other lifestyle-related health conditions affecting men.
Breaking the Silence
He concluded by encouraging men to break the silence surrounding piles and seek help without fear or embarrassment.
“There is nothing shameful about seeking treatment. The earlier the condition is addressed, the better the chances of recovery and prevention of complications,” he said.
Dr. Mortoti emphasized that protecting one’s health should always take priority over societal stigma or personal embarrassment, adding that awareness, prevention, and early action remain key to fighting piles and other preventable health conditions in Ghana.
