Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), a leading contender for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a call for party unity, emphasizing that post-election reconciliation is vital for the party’s success in the 2028 general elections.

In a statement addressing party faithful and the media, Mr. Appiah underscored the principle of “One NPP,” arguing that the internal contest to elect a flagbearer should not be a catalyst for division.

As a regional leadership hopeful, Mr. Appiah’s primary objective is to serve as a unifier for all factions within the party.

While acknowledging his personal right to vote, Mr. Appiah appealed to sympathizers of all candidates to be mindful of their choice of words throughout the campaign.

Maintaining as a unifier is a strategic necessity for anyone seeking to lead the Ashanti Region, the NPP’s most significant stronghold.

“I want to become the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP,” COKA stated.

“After the elections, we are the same people who will be responsible for leading reconciliation in the region. It would, therefore, be inappropriate for me to openly campaign for or against any of the aspirants.”

He further urged delegates and supporters to conduct their campaigns with decorum, warning that vitriolic internal rivalries could jeopardize the party’s performance in the 2028 national elections.

The NPP is scheduled to hold elections on January 31, 2026, to elect a successor to the current party leadership. The contest features five high-profile candidates, all of whom Mr. Appiah described as possessing the requisite experience to govern Ghana: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, Kwabena Adjei Agyapong, and Dr. Bryan Acheampong.

“Whoever the party elects as its flagbearer, I am fully committed to working with that person,” Mr. Appiah added .
