The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has announced the resumption of construction works on the Sataso Bridge in the Mampong Municipality following government intervention to address challenges that stalled the project.
According to the Regional Minister, a new construction firm, Nathawo Constructions, has officially been engaged to take over the project after difficulties with the previous contractor affected the pace of work and delayed completion of the critical bridge infrastructure.
The announcement has brought renewed hope to residents, commuters, transport operators, and traders who rely heavily on the bridge for daily movement and economic activities within the constituency and adjoining communities.
Dr Frank Amoakohene disclosed that, as part of immediate measures to reduce the burden on commuters and ensure the free flow of traffic during the construction period, a diversion route has been created to facilitate vehicular movement and ease transportation difficulties in the area.
He explained that the temporary diversion is expected to improve accessibility and minimize disruptions while engineers and construction workers continue work on the bridge project.
The Ashanti Regional Minister further expressed appreciation to the Minister for Roads and Highways for what he described as swift intervention and unwavering support toward improving road and bridge infrastructure across the Ashanti Region.
According to him, the intervention by the Roads Ministry demonstrates government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure deficits and improving transportation networks to support economic growth and enhance the living conditions of citizens.
Dr Amoakohene noted that the successful completion of other important bridge projects in the region, including the Kotokuom Bridge and the Jacobu Bridge last year, serves as clear evidence of government’s determination to improve road connectivity and ensure safer transportation for residents.
He emphasized that the same level of dedication, commitment, and collaboration that ensured the prompt completion of those projects would be applied to the Sataso Bridge project to guarantee its successful execution.
“With the support of the Minister for Roads and Highways, similar critical bridges such as the Kotokuom Bridge and Jacobu Bridge were completed promptly last year. I am confident that through the same commitment and hard work, the Sataso Bridge will also be successfully completed for the benefit of the people,” he stated.
The Regional Minister stressed that road and bridge infrastructure remain central to the government’s broader development agenda, particularly in improving trade, transportation, access to healthcare, education, and other essential services within rural and urban communities.
He added that poor road infrastructure and damaged bridges often create major economic and social difficulties for communities, especially during rainy seasons when movement becomes dangerous and sometimes impossible.
Residents in the affected communities have reportedly welcomed the resumption of work on the bridge, describing it as a major relief after months of uncertainty and transportation challenges.
Some commuters and commercial drivers expressed optimism that the completion of the bridge would significantly improve travel time, reduce vehicle maintenance costs, and enhance economic activities in the area.
The Sataso Bridge project is considered a strategic infrastructure intervention aimed at improving connectivity within the Mampong Constituency and surrounding communities, while also promoting regional trade and development.
Dr Frank Amoakohene reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the Ashanti Region and ensuring the safety and convenience of citizens.
