The Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa, has commended the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tatale-Sanguli in the Northern region , Hon. Mary Tagba, for her outstanding international recognition, describing her achievements as a source of pride for the entire Northern Region.
The commendation came when Hon. Mary Tagba paid a courtesy call on the revered traditional ruler at his palace in Yendi on Monday, May 4, 2026, to formally present awards she recently received from the World Diplomatic Federation and to seek his blessings.
The awards — Best DCE in the Northern Region and Adaptability & Social Infrastructure Advocate Honors — were conferred in recognition of her leadership, dedication to public service, and advocacy for the empowerment of women and the girl-child.
Presenting the honours, Hon. Mary Tagba emphasised that the recognition was not personal but a collective achievement for the people of the Northern Region and traditional authorities, particularly the Yaa-Naa, whose guidance she credited for her success.
“This award belongs to all of us , to the chiefs, elders, and the people who have supported me since I assumed office,” she stated. “I felt it was important to present it to my father, the Yaa-Naa, to seek his blessings and continued support.”
She noted that her journey in office has been shaped by consistent counsel from traditional leaders, adding that their wisdom has played a crucial role in her ability to deliver on her mandate.
Hon. Mary Tagba used the platform to advocate for increased opportunities for women in leadership, urging her fellow women to demonstrate competence and dedication when entrusted with responsibility.
“When women are given the opportunity to serve, we must prove that we are capable. We must show our fathers, chiefs, and elders that we can lead effectively and contribute to development,” she said.
She further observed that many women in the Northern Region possess the skills and potential to excel but are often constrained by limited access to leadership opportunities.
“There are many talented women in this region who have not been given the chance to serve. If we create the enabling environment, they will rise and make meaningful contributions to national development,” she added.
As part of her broader vision, the DCE announced plans to establish a foundation aimed at supporting girl-child education through scholarships and promoting women’s economic empowerment.
The initiative will also provide mentorship and training for young women interested in political leadership.
According to her, the foundation is intended to create lasting impact across the region by equipping women with the tools needed to succeed and contribute meaningfully to society.
In his response, the Yaa-Naa praised Hon. Mary Tagba for her dedication and achievements, urging her to remain focused and continue striving for excellence.
“With two major awards within just one year in office, it is clear that you have a bright future. Do not relent; continue to work hard for your people,” he advised.
He also called on other women within the district and beyond to emulate the example set by the DCE, stressing that commitment and hard work are key to gaining recognition.
The Overlord further noted that Hon. Tagba’s performance has brought renewed attention to the Tatale-Sanguli District, highlighting that her efforts have placed the area on the national development map.
“Because of her hard work, the whole country is now hearing about Tatale-Sanguli. This is something we are proud of as a people,” he remarked.
Following her engagement at the Yaa-Naa’s palace, Hon. Tagba proceeded to the Tatale Traditional Area, where she presented the awards to the Paramount Chief, sub-chiefs, and queen mothers, expressing appreciation for their continued support and seeking their blessings.
The event reinforced the importance of collaboration between local government authorities and traditional leadership in advancing development and promoting inclusive governance.
Hon.Mary Tagba’s recognition and advocacy for women’s empowerment continue to position her as a leading figure in promoting gender inclusion and grassroots development in Northern Ghana.
