Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Former NPP Constituency Chairman for Afigya Kwabre South in the Ashanti Region has denied reports that he is not cool with Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling NPP.
Coka was defeated in the NPP regional executive elections a few months ago by Mr Antwi Bosiako aka Wontumi. Since then, there have been rumours that the two do not get along.
However, in response to a recent video showing Wontumi and Coka at an event, Odeneho noted that his vision has been on the NPP’s ‘breaking the eight,’ and that he is working so hard with all NPP members to maintain power in 2024.
As per him, Wontumi is not his primary goal, but ‘breaking the eight’ in Ghana’s voting in 2024 is his ultimate ambition.
“I went into elections with Chairman Wontumi… The NPP delegates elected him, they said we should allow Wontumi to continue so what is the problem again?.
Now we’re brothers, we’re friends. Chairman Wontumi is not my target and I don’t think I’m his target. What is very essential is what I can do at my small corner to mass up people, and encourage them to win elections. If through me, NPP loses polls, it will be very bad.
“Everything is over; we’re looking at retaining power….. I’m a democrat; I’ve forgotten about the polls and moved on, as I think Wontumi has done.
Now what we can do to retain power is where we’ve gotten to.
So what you heard Wontumi say was true. We’re going to work together.”
“My target is breaking the eight.”
“I’ll never give up; I will continue to do my best to help my party to retain power,” Coka stated on Oyerepa Breakfast Show monitored by JMN24.
He did, subsequently, call on all party members to work together as one to break the NPP’s eight-year streak.
