Emphasizing the current GHANA’s economic challenges, such as the weak currency, capital flight, and low investor appetite, there is a passionate plea to President John Mahama to consider appointing experienced persons to handle affairs both locally and internationally.
Renowned Ghanaian Academician and Expert in International Relations, Professor Kwabena Aduhene-Karikari’s extensive research and interactions with fellow academics, and key stakeholders in foreign policy formulation suggests to the President to be mindful of who becomes his Foreign Affairs Minister.
In his open letter, without endorsement admonished President Mahama to consider names like Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, and Hon. Alex Segbefia.
However, Prof. Aduhene-Karikari believes that Dr. Spio-Garbrah’s experience and achievements make him the most suitable candidate for the position.
According to him, Dr. Spio-Garbrah’s achievements, as highlighted by Prof. Aduhene-Karikari, include successfully turning around negative public opinion on VAT, creating the GETFUND, which has brought in over USD 5 billion to support Ghana’s education, and helping to raise USD billions of dollars during his tenure at the African Development Bank.
Professor Aduhene-Karikari also argued that Dr. Spio-Garbrah’s 40 years of experience in international assignments, including his tenure as Ambassador to the United States and Minister of Communications, make him the ideal candidate for the position.
