Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has officially assumed office as the new Minister for Defence, pledging to serve Ghana with dedication, humility and an unwavering commitment to protecting the nation’s security and territorial integrity.
The new Defence Minister described his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama as a profound honour and a sacred responsibility, expressing deep appreciation for the confidence reposed in him to lead one of the country’s most critical ministries.
In taking up the new responsibility, Hon. Adjei said he was humbled by the opportunity to serve the Republic of Ghana and contribute to the strengthening of the country’s defence and national security architecture.
He acknowledged that the Ministry of Defence plays a vital role in maintaining the peace, stability and sovereignty of the nation and pledged to work diligently to uphold the mandate entrusted to him.
Hon. Adjei also extended his heartfelt appreciation to his predecessor, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, for his service and leadership during his tenure at the Ministry.
He commended the outgoing minister for his contribution to the ministry and expressed his readiness to build on the work already undertaken while working collaboratively with the ministry’s leadership, management and staff.
The new minister is expected to work closely with the Ghana Armed Forces and other stakeholders in the security sector as the government seeks to strengthen national defence and safeguard the peace and stability of the country.
According to Hon. Adjei, his approach to the new assignment will be anchored on teamwork, commitment and a shared sense of duty to Ghana.
He stressed the importance of collective effort in addressing emerging security challenges and ensuring that the country’s defence institutions remain capable of responding effectively to threats to national security.
The assumption of office marks a new chapter in Hon. Adjei’s public service career, with expectations high for effective leadership, strategic direction and continued collaboration within the defence establishment.
As he begins his tenure, the Defence Minister has assured Ghanaians of his determination to give the assignment his utmost attention and to work with all relevant stakeholders to protect the nation and its interests.
“The mission goes on,” Hon. Adjei said, signalling his readiness to immediately take on the responsibilities that come with his new office.
His assumption of office comes at a time when national security remains a key priority for the government, placing a strong emphasis on effective defence administration, professionalism within the security services and the protection of Ghana’s territorial sovereignty.
