Abuakwa Polyclinic in the Atwima Nwiabigya South Municipality of the Ashanti region has received Personal Protective equipment worth thousands of Ghana cedis from the Ghana Diaspora Women.
The donation was in support of the fight against the covid-19 pandemic. The group has over five hundred membership in both Ghana and diaspora and have been assisting under privilege communities across the country to solve teething problems.
Making the donation on behalf of the Founder and Leader of Ghana Diaspora Women, Mrs. Marie Adomako-Boadu by the President of the local Chapter, Madam Esther Ampadu- Asiamah noted that the donation was the group’s contribution to relief the vulnerable in the society at the time the nation is fighting against the deadly virus covid-19 pandemic.
The group said the plight of less endowed communities in Ghana could only be addressed when association such as theirs vigorously show love commitment towards reaching out to the less privileged and their social responsibility.
She said the provision of educational infrastructure, health, Sanitation and hygiene services are the top priorities of the Ghana Diaspora women because they consider them as very fundamental to improved health outcomes, quality education, poverty reduction and socio-economic development.
Madam Esther Ampadu- Asiamah said education is one of the most important tools for national development. It istherefore the responsibility of any progressive government anywhere to provide and promote sound educational policies as well as infrastructure that will help its people acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes for social progress.
The items include set of veronica buckets, adult and toddler weighing scales, packs of nose masks, sanitizers, boxes of gloves, gallons of liquid soap, dust bins, deliveries gowns, and pieces of tissue papers. Receiving the items, the Acting Medical Superintendent of Abuakwa Polyclinic, Dr. Nana Nketia Ababio said the donation has come at the right time when facilities a battling with few PPE’S to ensure safety of health staff.On the infrastructure deficits, was happy that the OPD and other projects are under renovation to befit polyclinic statues.
The renovations is being financed with the facility’s Internally Generated Fund hence slow pace of the project and has therefore urged government and other benevolent organisations to come to their aid. Dr. Nana Nketia Ababio emphasized the need for the people to continue to observe the protocols given by the WHO and the Ghana health service in the fight against the deadly virus and if possible staying home if you have nothing to do outside.
A member of the Local Chapter of Ghana Diaspora women, Maame Ama Adjem however commended the founder of the group for her vision in responding to frontlines health workers in this critical times in helping to fight the Covid-19 pandemic in Ghana and worldwide.
