“Dr. Samuel Sarpong was a father figure and an advisor to me,” – Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, has expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic death of Dr. Samuel Sarpong, the party’s First Vice Chairman, in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025 and Mr Samuel Aboagye,former NDC PC for Obuasi East.

Dr. Sarpong and other 7 were on their  way to Obuasi for the official launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) when the accident occurred.

Chairman Nana Kwasi  described Dr. Sarpong’s death as a “big blow” to him and the party, emphasizing the significant contributions Dr. Sarpong made to the NDC’s development at both regional and national levels.

He said, Dr Samuel Sarpong was his father and an advisor.

The Chairman revealed that the party has arranged for two buses to transport party members to and from Accra for the funeral, showcasing their solidarity and support for the bereaved family .

He said,the NDC will hold a state burial for Dr. Sarpong and Samuel Aboagye in Accra and after the state burial, family members will have the opportunity to hold individual funerals.

The NDC will ensure that Dr. Sarpong and Samuel Aboagye are honored as heroes who dedicated their lives to the party’s growth and development.

Chairman Nana Kwasi appealed to Dr. Sarpong’s family to take heart, reminding them that “God has a reason for every circumstance.” This message of condolence reflects the party’s commitment to supporting its members during times of sorrow .

NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia had previously paid a solemn visit to Dr. Sarpong’s family, breaking down in tears as he recounted the circumstances surrounding Dr. Sarpong’s untimely demise.

Mr Asiedu Nketia revealed that Dr. Sarpong had been appointed Board Chairman of the Cocoa Processing Company by President John Dramani Mahama on the morning of August 6, 2025, just before the fatal accident .
