29th GJA/KGL Media Awards Scheduled For November 8 at Manhyia palace

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), in collaboration with KGL Group, is set to host the prestigious 29th GJA/KGL Media Awards on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The event, taking place at the historic Manhyia Palace under the distinguished patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, promises to be a significant occasion highlighting the pivotal role of media in promoting peace, security, and combating illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana.

The theme of this year’s awards, “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security, and the Fight Against Galamsey,” underscores the critical importance of responsible journalism in shaping the nation’s development trajectory. The media plays a vital role in informing the public, holding leaders accountable, and advocating for policies that promote national stability and progress.

The event will be graced by notable dignitaries, emphasizing the significance of the occasion.

His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, will serve as the special guest of honour and keynote speaker. His presence is expected to add gravitas to the proceedings, given his experience in governance and national development.

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, lends his distinguished patronage to the event, highlighting the importance of traditional leadership in fostering community peace and security.

Other special guests include Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, and His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Acting Chief Justice, whose participation will enrich the discussions on media’s role in national development.

This year’s award ceremony is sponsored by Mr. Alex Apau Dadey, Executive Chairman of KGL Group, whose support underscores the corporate sector’s recognition of the media’s role in societal development.

Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, will host the event, which is scheduled for 12:30 PM prompt at Manhyia Palace.

The 29th GJA/KGL Media Awards will be broadcast live on GBC News/GTV and all major media platforms, ensuring wide coverage and accessibility to the public.

This broad dissemination will highlight the discussions and outcomes of the event, further emphasizing the media’s role in promoting peace, security, and the fight against galamsey.
