Boawoman Cooperative Small Scale Mining Limited holds public hearing on proposed mining project in Chirano

The Management of Boawoman Cooperative Small Scale Mining Limited has held a “public hearing” on the proposed responsible cooperative mining at Chirano in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

The objective was to assist the company to explain to the residents structures that had been put in place to protect issues like water bodies, dust, and general environmental pollution and benefits that would result from its operations when the project commences.

Speaking at the forum on Thursday, December 25,2025, at the Chirano palace, Mr. John Bediako, Manager/Secretary of the company, said the forum was to engage community members to educate them on the difference between community mining and that of responsible cooperative mining and its benefits to the catchment areas.

According to him, the initiative aims to curb illegal mining, create employment, and promote sustainable mining practices, adding that it is their sole responsibility to reclaim any lands after work.

Mr. Bediako announced that Boawoman Cooperative Small Scale Mining Limited, upon its launched by the Lands and Natural Resources Minister Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah last year had received consent from traditional leaders to operate within the Bibiani-Anhwias-Bekwai Municipality and Western North as a whole to ensure responsible mining to safeguard the environment.

Mr. Sebastian Obeng, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), for Bibiani-Anhwiawso-Bekwai Municipal assured the company of his full support since the initiative was aligned with President Mahama’s resetting agenda to protect the lands, and water bodies from destructions.

He said in line with the company’s policy of creating value and improving lives through sustainable and responsible mining had through consultants, working together with stakeholders to address concerns that might come up along the way and asked for the community support and cooperation to champion the course.

The Paramount Chief of Sefwi Chirano Traditional Area, Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah lll, commended the government for this fantastic initiative aims to curb illegal mining activities in the country.

He urged Boawoman Cooperative Small Scale Mining Limited to abide by the rules and regulations given them by the regulatory authorities so as to ensure peace and stability and appealed to offer employment opportunities to youth in the area.
