The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, Hon. Ing. Ebenezer Aidoo, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for the Ahanta West Constituency, Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue, has commissioned a newly renovated steel bridge linking the Busua and Dixcove communities in the Western Region.

The bridge, which serves as a major access route for residents, had previously deteriorated to a state that posed serious safety risks, particularly to pedestrians. Its damaged steel structure made movement hazardous, especially for tourists, pregnant women, and the sick, raising widespread concern among community members.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Ing. Ebenezer Aidoo described the project as “a symbol of hope that has removed fear and restored safety for commuters in the area.” He explained that the renovation was prioritized under the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), underscoring that infrastructure development remains a key pillar of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
According to the MCE, the swift reconstruction of the bridge was a top priority for the Assembly, the Member of Parliament, and the government, given its importance to the socio-economic activities of the area.
“Your patience has given birth to excellent work that will open the community to development and trade,” he stated, urging residents to take full ownership of the facility to ensure its protection and long-term sustainability.
The Member of Parliament, Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue, also expressed her appreciation to the contractor for the timely execution of the project. She noted that the improved bridge would significantly enhance tourism development within Busua, Dixcove, and the entire Ahanta West Municipality.
“I am still pushing for more development in the constituency, and all I ask from you is your prayers,” she told residents.
She further called on miners in the area to support government efforts to curb illegal mining, encouraging them to take advantage of the Cooperative Mining Scheme, which provides a structured and sustainable framework for small-scale mining activities.
Additionally, the MP appealed to traditional authorities to remain united and urged Nananom to consider leasing lands for development purposes rather than selling them outright, in order to safeguard the future of the community.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Nana Sena Akuba, Queen Mother of the Ahanta Traditional Council, expressed profound gratitude to the government for the project, describing it as a major relief to residents. She commended both the MCE and the MP for ensuring the provision of a safe and reliable bridge for the area.
The contractor for the project, Mr. Kofi Ackah of Ackben Construction, also thanked the MCE, the MP, the Assembly, and the government for the opportunity to undertake the work, assuring them that the project was executed to specification and delivered as promised.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Municipal Coordinator, Head of Works, Assembly staff, Assembly Members, and executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
