The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has received a delegation from the Mercy Ships Foundation at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC), in a significant engagement aimed at strengthening access to specialized surgical care across the region.

The visit, which took place yesterday, forms part of Mercy Ships’ ongoing collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate to provide free, life-changing surgical interventions for selected patients in various medical specialties.

Health stakeholders describe the partnership as a major boost to the region’s healthcare delivery efforts, particularly for vulnerable individuals who require critical surgical treatment but face financial and logistical barriers.

A Timely Intervention for Patients in Need

Mercy Ships, a globally recognized humanitarian organization known for delivering advanced medical services through hospital ships and outreach missions, is expected to work closely with regional health authorities to identify beneficiaries for the upcoming surgical support programme.

The initiative will target patients in need of specialized procedures, offering renewed hope to families who have long struggled with untreated medical conditions.

Dr. Amoakohene noted that the presence of Mercy Ships in the region marks an important step toward improving healthcare outcomes and ensuring that life-saving surgeries become accessible to those who need them most.

“Their presence marks an important step toward providing free, life-changing surgeries for selected patients across a range of specialties,” the Regional Minister stated.

Commitment to Quality Healthcare Delivery

The Ashanti Regional Minister emphasized that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment between government health institutions and international partners to expand quality healthcare services.

According to him, access to specialized surgical care remains a pressing challenge for many communities, and interventions such as this serve as a critical bridge in restoring dignity, health, and productivity to affected individuals.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to improving access to quality healthcare and restoring hope and dignity to individuals and families,” he added.

Commendation for Compassionate Global Service

Dr. Amoakohene commended Mercy Ships for their compassion, dedication, and consistent global humanitarian service, describing their work as impactful and timely.

He assured the delegation of the full support of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and the Regional Health Directorate as preparations advance toward the successful implementation of the programme.

“I commend Mercy Ships for their compassion and global service, and I assure them of our full support as they work with our health authorities to identify beneficiaries and deliver this critical intervention,” he said.

Advancing Healthcare Across the Region

The meeting comes at a time when the Ashanti Regional Administration continues to prioritize healthcare improvement, infrastructure development, and strategic partnerships to enhance service delivery across the region.

With Mercy Ships’ involvement, health officials anticipate a meaningful reduction in the burden of untreated surgical conditions, particularly among disadvantaged populations.

The Regional Minister reaffirmed the region’s resolve to work hand-in-hand with partners to ensure better health outcomes for all residents.

“Together, we continue to advance healthcare delivery and improve lives across the Ashanti Region,” Dr. Amoakohene concluded.

As the collaboration progresses, residents are hopeful that the initiative will bring relief, healing, and renewed opportunity to many patients and families throughout the Ashanti Region.
