NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman Rewards Young Poet with Scholarship After Independence Day Performance

A Basic Five pupil of the Forces Basic School in Kumasi, Neriah Obeng Gyawu Afriyie, has been awarded a scholarship and an undisclosed cash prize by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Andrews Augustus Nana Kwasi, in recognition of her outstanding poetry recital during the 69th Independence Day celebration in Kumasi.

The young pupil captured the admiration of dignitaries and attendees with her eloquent poetry citation at the event organized by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to commemorate Ghana’s independence.

Recognition for exceptional talent
Mr. Kwasi announced the scholarship shortly after the event, explaining that the gesture was meant to reward the pupil’s remarkable confidence, creativity, and patriotic expression demonstrated during her performance.

According to him, Neriah’s presentation stood out among the many activities that marked the celebration and deserved encouragement and recognition.

He revealed that the scholarship package would cover the pupil’s educational expenses until she completes Junior High School (JHS).

The regional chairman added that although the exact amount of the financial reward was not disclosed, the package was intended to support the pupil’s academic development and motivate her to continue pursuing excellence.

“This support is meant to encourage her to continue working hard in school while also nurturing her talent,” Mr. Kwasi said.

Mr. Kwasi expressed the hope that the gesture would inspire other young pupils across the region to develop their talents and strive for excellence in their academic and extracurricular activities.

He emphasized the importance of recognizing young people who demonstrate creativity, discipline, and dedication, especially during national events that celebrate the country’s history and achievements.

According to him, nurturing the talents of young students is essential for building a confident and capable future generation.

The headmistress of Forces Basic School, together with the parents of Neriah Obeng Gyawu Afriyie, expressed deep appreciation to Mr. Kwasi for his generosity and commitment to supporting the child’s education.

They described the gesture as timely and motivating, noting that it would not only ease the financial burden on the family but also inspire the young pupil to continue excelling in her studies and creative pursuits.

School authorities further commended the regional chairman for recognizing the importance of education and for encouraging pupils to showcase their talents on important national platforms.

The poetry performance formed part of activities during the 69th Independence Day celebration held in Kumasi, which brought together government officials, traditional leaders, educators, students, and members of the public to commemorate Ghana’s independence from colonial rule in 1957.
