The race for a key leadership position within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has gathered fresh momentum following the official declaration by the party’s National Treasurer, Dr. Charles Dwamena, to contest for the role of General Secretary.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Dr. Dwamena popularly known within political circles as “Dr. China” announced that his decision is driven by a deep sense of duty and an unwavering commitment to repositioning the party for future electoral success.
According to him, the contest is not merely about occupying a high-ranking office within the party’s hierarchy, but rather about initiating a comprehensive rebuilding process that will restore confidence, strengthen internal structures, and reconnect the party with its grassroots base.
“This is not just a contest for a position,” he stated. “It is a call to rebuild our operational strength, deepen grassroots participation, restore absolute discipline, and reposition our party machinery for decisive victories ahead—most importantly, to rebuild and restore the lost love.”
His declaration comes at a critical time for the NPP, as the party reflects on its performance and strategizes toward upcoming political contests.
Observers note that the General Secretary role remains one of the most influential within the party, responsible for coordinating nationwide operations, managing party administration, and ensuring cohesion among its various organs.
Dr. Dwamena emphasized the urgent need for strategic leadership and effective coordination to maintain unity and discipline within the party. He stressed that loyalty to party structures and a results-oriented approach would be central to his leadership style if entrusted with the mandate.
“The time has come for strategic leadership, effective coordination, loyalty to party structures, and results-driven administration,” he affirmed.
Highlighting his readiness for the role, Dr. Dwamena pledged to adopt an inclusive leadership approach by engaging party executives and stakeholders across all levels—from polling station officers to national leadership..
“I am ready to serve, ready to listen, and ready to work with every polling station executive, constituency officer, regional and national stakeholder,” he said, underscoring the importance of collaboration in strengthening the party’s foundation.
Widely regarded as a dedicated party financier and strategist, Dr. Dwamena has served as National Treasurer of the NPP, where he played a key role in mobilizing resources and supporting party activities nationwide.
His experience and visibility within the party are expected to make him a formidable contender in what is shaping up to be a keenly contested race.
His campaign, anchored on the theme “Rebuild to Restore the Lost Love,” places strong emphasis on unity, discipline, and grassroots engagement principles he believes are essential to revitalizing the party’s fortunes.
Political analysts suggest that his entry into the race is likely to intensify competition and spark renewed interest among party faithful, as aspirants position themselves to influence the NPP’s future direction.
As the contest unfolds, party members and observers alike will be watching closely to see how candidates articulate their visions and rally support across the country. For Dr. Dwamena, the message is clear: a call to rebuild, reconnect, and reposition the NPP for victory in the years ahead.
