The Government of Ghana, through its Embassy in Saudi Arabia, has issued a stern caution to Ghanaian pilgrims preparing for the 2026 Hajj, urging strict adherence to Saudi laws and regulations throughout the pilgrimage period.

In an official statement signed by Alhaji Said Sinare, Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, the Embassy emphasized that while Hajj remains a sacred religious obligation, it must be undertaken with discipline, responsibility, and full respect for the laws of the host country.

The statement, directed at pilgrims traveling between May 1 and May 20, 2026, warned against involvement in criminal activities such as drug trafficking and money laundering. It stressed that Saudi authorities enforce strict penalties, including arrest, prosecution, and severe punishment for offenders.

“The Embassy will not countenance any conduct that tarnishes the image of Ghana,” the statement noted, adding that individuals who engage in illegal acts will bear full responsibility for the consequences.

Pilgrims were also cautioned against carrying luggage, money, or items for third parties without proper verification, as this could expose them to serious legal risks. Additionally, the Embassy warned against attempting to undertake the pilgrimage through unauthorized means, such as using visiting visas or illegal travel arrangements, which could lead to arrest, deportation, and possible long-term entry bans.

To ensure a smooth and lawful pilgrimage, the Embassy directed all prospective pilgrims to travel only through approved Hajj arrangements, possess valid Hajj-specific documentation, and conduct themselves in a manner that upholds Ghana’s dignity and reputation.

Reaffirming its commitment to the safety and welfare of Ghanaian pilgrims, the Embassy encouraged all travelers to remain law-abiding and act as responsible ambassadors of the country.

The statement concluded with well wishes for a safe journey and a spiritually fulfilling Hajj for all Ghanaian pilgrims.
