Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has described her recent visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison as one of the most emotional, painful, and life-changing experiences of her life.
The humanitarian outreach, organized by the KN Foundation in collaboration with the Joana Gyan Foundation, the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG), and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), brought together former Black Stars legends, football administrators, entertainers, business leaders, media personalities, and dignitaries from across the country.
Speaking after the outreach on Thursday, May 21, 2026, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe emphasized the importance of compassion, forgiveness, and second chances in society.
“Every soul matters. Every life deserves hope, dignity, encouragement, and another opportunity,” she stated emotionally after interacting with inmates during the visit.
According to the MP, the outreach was not about politics, football, music, or publicity, but rather about humanity and reminding inmates that society still cares about them despite their circumstances.
The delegation, estimated at between 150 and 170 people, traveled from Accra to Nsawam to donate food items, football equipment, jerseys, drinking water, tracksuits, and cash support to inmates and prison officers.
Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe revealed that it was her first time entering a prison facility and admitted that the experience deeply affected her emotionally.
“I cried almost the whole day. It was heartbreaking seeing the pain, regret, and struggles many inmates are going through,” she said.
She noted that while criminals must face justice, many inmates also require guidance, support, rehabilitation, and opportunities to rebuild their lives.
The outreach featured notable personalities including Kwesi Nyantakyi, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, Abedi Ayew, Samuel Osei Kuffour, and Anthony Baffoe.
Popular Ghanaian entertainers, including Dr Cryme and Patapaa, also participated in the exercise to inspire hope and solidarity among inmates.
Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe further commended prison officers and authorities at Nsawam Prison for their dedication and professionalism despite difficult working conditions.
She also used the occasion to advise Ghanaian youth to avoid violence, crime, and reckless decisions that could destroy their future.
“Freedom is a blessing. Never take it for granted,” she cautioned.
The outreach concluded with prayers, interactions with inmates, and renewed calls for stronger rehabilitation and reintegration support for prisoners across the country.
Organizers described the initiative as a symbol of national unity, compassion, and collective responsibility toward vulnerable members of society.
