The Government has announced the implementation arrangements for the two-day National Flood Aftermath Clean-up Exercise, urging all residents, institutions and businesses in the affected regions to fully participate in restoring environmental sanitation following recent flooding incidents.
A press release issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs said the nationwide exercise, being undertaken on the directive of President John Dramani Mahama, will take place on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day.
According to the ministry, the exercise is aimed at ensuring the effective clean-up of communities in the seven flood-affected regions while promoting public health and preventing the outbreak of diseases associated with flooding.
On the first day, the exercise will involve all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), public and private institutions, security services, educational institutions, waste management companies and the general public.
The second day has been dedicated to community participation, with residents, community-based organisations, volunteer groups, security agencies and MMDAs, supported by waste management companies, expected to undertake extensive clean-up activities across affected communities.
To ensure maximum participation, the ministry directed that all shops, markets, commercial establishments, corporate organisations and other non-essential businesses within the affected regions remain closed between 6:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on both days.

However, institutions providing essential and emergency services have been exempted from the directive to ensure uninterrupted delivery of critical services.

The ministry appealed to all citizens to cooperate fully with the exercise, stressing that collective action is essential to restoring clean and safe communities and reducing the risk of disease outbreaks after the floods.

It further urged the public to observe all safety guidelines during the exercise and work closely with local authorities to ensure its success.
