KMA Supports 57 PWDs With Cash, Equipment

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has provided financial assistance and essential working tools to 57 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) Disability Programme to enhance their economic independence and improve their standard of living.

The beneficiaries received the support during a presentation ceremony held at the forecourt of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

The assistance is expected to help beneficiaries expand existing businesses, pursue education, access healthcare services, and acquire vocational skills to enable them become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving the welfare of Persons with Disabilities.

He announced that government has increased the allocation of the Disability Fund under the District Assembly Common Fund from 3 percent to 5 percent, describing the move as a demonstration of its determination to provide greater opportunities and support for persons living with disabilities.

The Mayor urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the financial assistance and items received by investing them in productive ventures that would improve their livelihoods and create sustainable sources of income.
He stressed that the intervention forms part of government’s broader agenda to promote social inclusion and ensure that no one is left behind in the country’s development.

Hon. Ofori Agyeman Boadi assured residents that the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly would continue to implement programmes aimed at empowering vulnerable groups and creating equal opportunities for all.

He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to building an inclusive city where every resident, irrespective of physical ability, can realise his or her full potential and contribute to the growth and development of Kumasi.

Officials of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development commended the initiative, noting that the support would significantly improve the living conditions of the beneficiaries while encouraging economic empowerment among Persons with Disabilities within the metropolis.
