The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South East in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Ibrahim Yamba Nelson Issaka, has urged persons with disabilities (PWDs) not to allow their physical conditions to define their future, stressing that disability should never be a barrier to personal growth and economic independence.
He said every individual had unique abilities and potential, and therefore persons with disabilities should remain confident and determined to achieve their aspirations.
Speaking at a ceremony to distribute livelihood support items to persons with disabilities at the District Assembly premises, Hon. Issaka encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment to improve their livelihoods and become financially self-reliant.
“Do not think that God did not create you well because of your disability. Every human being is vulnerable, and anyone can become disabled at any point in life. What matters is how you rise above the challenges and make a meaningful contribution to society,” he said.
The presentation formed part of the Assembly’s efforts to improve the welfare and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities through the Disability Fund.
The beneficiaries received various vocational and income-generating equipment, including cash, sewing machines, hair dryers, refrigerators and other working tools to support businesses in tailoring, hairdressing, catering and petty trading.
Hon. Issaka explained that the intervention was intended to equip beneficiaries with employable skills and productive assets that would enable them to establish or expand their businesses, improve household incomes and reduce dependency.
He urged them to maintain the equipment properly and use it for the purpose for which it was provided, saying the Assembly expected the items to create lasting economic benefits for both the beneficiaries and their families.
The DCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to promoting inclusive development by ensuring that persons with disabilities were not left behind in the district’s development agenda.
He noted that the Assembly would continue to implement programmes aimed at enhancing the social and economic well-being of vulnerable groups, particularly persons with disabilities.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Assembly for the support, describing the items as timely interventions that would enable them to strengthen their businesses, improve their incomes and cater for their families.
They pledged to use the equipment responsibly and appealed for continuous support to enable more persons with disabilities in the district to benefit from similar initiatives.
