The Chief Executive Officer of PIWAK Natural Health, Dr Prince Nelson Mortoti, has urged Ghanaians to prioritise good oral hygiene and healthy lifestyle habits to prevent halitosis, commonly known as bad breath.

According to him, persistent bad breath is not merely a social embarrassment but could also be an early warning sign of underlying oral or medical conditions that require prompt attention.

Dr Mortoti explained that halitosis is often caused by the build-up of bacteria in the mouth due to poor oral hygiene, gum disease, tooth decay, food particles trapped between the teeth, dry mouth, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. He added that certain medical conditions, including sinus infections, diabetes and gastrointestinal disorders, may also contribute to chronic bad breath.

He therefore advised the public to brush their teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss regularly, clean their tongues and visit the dentist for routine examinations and professional cleaning.

The PIWAK CEO further encouraged people to drink enough water, maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and avoid tobacco products to reduce the risk of developing halitosis.

Touching on natural remedies, Dr Mortoti said garlic contains allicin, a natural compound with antimicrobial properties that may help inhibit the growth of bacteria associated with unpleasant mouth odour. He noted that 3P Garlic Mixture, produced by PIWAK Natural Health, is made from quality garlic extracts and is intended to support overall wellness as part of a healthy lifestyle.

He stressed that the herbal preparation should complement, and not replace, proper oral hygiene practices and professional dental care.

Dr Mortoti advised individuals whose bad breath persists despite good oral hygiene to seek medical or dental attention for proper diagnosis and treatment rather than resorting to self-medication.

He reiterated that early detection, preventive healthcare and healthy living remain the most effective ways of maintaining fresh breath and good overall health.

“Fresh breath begins with a healthy mouth and a healthy body. By practising good oral hygiene, eating nutritious foods and seeking timely medical care when necessary, people can prevent halitosis and improve their quality of life,” he said.
