Mr Johnson Samlafo Korbla, popularly known as JSK, has declared his intention to seek re-election as the Deputy Volta Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Korbla is appealing to delegates, particularly the youth and members of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN), to renew their confidence in him and give him another mandate to serve the youth wing of the party in the Volta Region.
According to him, his decision to contest for a second term was motivated by his desire to consolidate the gains made during his first tenure and use the experience acquired to deliver improved service to the youth and the party.
He described his first term as one characterised by sacrifice, learning, service and responsibility, saying the period had enabled him to better understand the aspirations and challenges confronting young members of the NDC.
Service
Mr Korbla said his leadership philosophy had never been based on the prestige associated with political office but on service to the people.
“I come before you not as a perfect leader, but as a humble, respectful, honest, accessible, and peaceful servant who believes that leadership is not about position. It is about people, sacrifice and service,” he said.
He said he had, throughout his tenure, sought to remain accessible to party members and work with them in addressing their concerns, while contributing to the mobilisation and activities of the party.
Mr Korbla believes the experience gained during his first term has equipped him with the knowledge and understanding required to provide stronger leadership if given another opportunity.
“One term has given me the experience. A renewed mandate will give me the opportunity to do more,” he stated.
Focus on youth
The aspirant also highlighted the important role of young people in the political organisation and future development of the NDC.
He particularly acknowledged the contribution of TEIN members to the mobilisation and development of the party’s youth structures, stressing that the concerns, aspirations and determination of young people must remain central to the activities of the youth wing.
He said a strong youth wing required leaders who understood the challenges confronting young people and were prepared to work closely with them to find solutions.
Mr Korbla pledged, if re-elected, to deepen engagement with the grassroots and promote an inclusive leadership system in which young members would feel valued and adequately represented.
Unity
A key component of his re-election bid, he said, would be the promotion of unity, peace and discipline within the NDC youth wing.
He promised to consolidate the achievements of his first term while identifying areas that needed improvement to make the youth wing more vibrant, united and effective.
According to him, the strength of the NDC in the Volta Region would depend, to a large extent, on the ability of its youth structures to remain united and organised.
“I seek your mandate not for the title, but for the work. Not for personal glory, but for collective progress. Not to divide, but to unite,” he declared.
Mr Korbla said he would not lead the youth from a distance but would work alongside them to address their concerns and advance their collective interests.
He added that an effective youth leadership must maintain a strong connection with the grassroots and create a sense of belonging among all members.
Second mandate
Mr Korbla’s declaration comes at a time when activities are gathering momentum ahead of the NDC’s internal elections, with aspirants positioning themselves for various leadership positions.
For him, continuity is important in ensuring that the experiences and lessons acquired during his first term are translated into improved results for the party.
He said a second mandate would enable him to build on the foundation established during his first term and contribute more effectively to the mobilisation and strengthening of the NDC youth structures across the Volta Region.
He therefore urged delegates to consider his record, experience and commitment to service as they prepared to make their choices.
Mr Korbla concluded his declaration with a call for unity and renewed commitment among the youth, saying: “One more mandate. One stronger Youth Wing. One united Volta. One unstoppable NDC!”
His campaign is being advanced under the hashtag #RetainJSK4DVRYO, as he seeks the support of delegates for another term as Deputy Volta Regional Youth Organiser.
