Residents of Bedabour and surrounding communities in the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region can now look forward to improved access to basic healthcare following the commissioning of the long-awaited Bedabour Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound.
The facility, which has been completed, furnished and prepared for operationalisation, is expected to bring essential healthcare services closer to residents and reduce the difficulties associated with travelling long distances to access basic medical attention.
The commissioning ceremony, held yesterday, marked a significant milestone in the development of healthcare infrastructure in the community after several years of waiting for the project to be completed.
The project was initiated in 2015 under the leadership of the then District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Stephen Yeboah.
Speaking at the commissioning, the current DCE, Hon Ibrahim Issahak said he was particularly delighted and humbled to have had the opportunity to oversee the completion and commissioning of the facility after years of delays.
He described the completion of the CHPS compound as an important achievement for the people of Bedabour and an indication of the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that development projects initiated to serve communities were not abandoned.
According to him, the milestone demonstrated what could be achieved when development initiatives were sustained across successive administrations and attention was given to projects that directly addressed the needs of local communities.
Healthcare Access.
The operationalisation of the facility is expected to improve access to basic healthcare for residents of Bedabour and neighbouring communities.
Previously, residents who required essential health services had to travel considerable distances to access healthcare, a situation that could create difficulties, particularly for pregnant women, children, the elderly and people requiring prompt medical attention.
With the completion of the CHPS compound, residents are expected to have access to healthcare services within their community, thereby reducing the burden associated with long-distance travel.
The facility is also expected to support preventive healthcare, health education and other community-level interventions as it becomes operational.
Continuity
The DCE emphasised the importance of continuity in development projects, noting that projects initiated by previous administrations could still be completed when there was a sustained commitment to development.
He commended the former DCE, Hon. Stephen Yeboah, for initiating the project in 2015 and acknowledged the contributions of individuals and institutions whose efforts at different stages helped bring the facility to completion.
He said the completion of the project was not only a reflection of the Assembly’s determination but also evidence that development initiatives could be successfully carried through when successive leaders maintained their focus on projects that served the public interest.
Assembly’s Commitment
The DCE assured residents that the Assembly would continue to prioritise the completion and operationalisation of development projects that addressed the needs of communities.
He said the Assembly remained committed to improving infrastructure and creating the conditions necessary for residents to access essential services without unnecessary difficulties.
The commissioning of the Bedabour CHPS Compound therefore represents a major addition to healthcare infrastructure in the area and a new chapter in efforts to improve community-level healthcare delivery.
For residents who have waited for years for the facility to become a reality, its completion offers renewed hope of having basic healthcare services delivered closer to home.
The Assembly described the development as another promise delivered and another community brought closer to quality healthcare.
