Abandoned classroom block collapses at Badu claiming 3 lives

Tragedy struck Badu, a town in the Tain District of the Bono Region, when an abandoned classroom block collapsed following a rainstorm on Sunday, October 29, 2023, resulting in the loss of three lives.
The deceased, mainly men, were pronounced dead on arrival at the Tain Dsitrict Hospital.

The incident occurred during a football match held as part of the annual Yam Festival celebrations.

The rain began during the match between young men from various towns in the Badu area.

In an attempt to find shelter from the rain, people rushed into the abandoned classroom block, which eventually collapsed.

Mr Shehu Dauda, the Assemblyman of Lawage Electoral Area and Chairman of the Town Council, confirmed the tragic incident.

Mr Dauda who is also a member of the festival planning committee confrimed the incident speaking in an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Odeyeeba Kofi Essuman on Thursday November 1, 2023.

He reported that several individuals suffered injuries in the incident, and three lost their lives.

The deceased were pronounced dead at the Tain District Hospital in Nsoko, while those with injuries received treatment at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital.
