The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly have renewed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at improving electricity supply and service delivery within the district.
The commitment was made when the Ashanti South General Manager of ECG, Ing. George Amoah, paid a courtesy call on the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, at the District Assembly in Mankranso.
The visit formed part of efforts by the ECG management to formally introduce the new General Manager and engage key stakeholders on issues affecting power distribution, customer service and electricity access within the district.
Ing. George Amoah used the occasion to interact with the DCE and understand the major electricity challenges facing residents while assuring the Assembly of ECG’s readiness to work closely with local authorities to improve service delivery.
He was accompanied by a team of ECG officials including the Regional Engineer, Ing. Emmanuel Osei Amoako; Regional Commercial Manager, Mr Jonathan Asante; Human Resource Manager, Mr George Ansah; Premises and Estates Manager, Mr Ebenezer Arthur; and Regional Public Relations Officer, Mr Benjamin Obeng Antwi.
DCE Appeals For Expansion Of Electricity Network.
Hon. Abubakar Sedik commended ECG management for its prompt response whenever electricity faults occur in the district, describing the interventions as crucial to maintaining reliable power supply.
He, however, appealed to the company to consider extending electricity infrastructure to newly developed communities that are currently without access to the national grid.
According to the DCE, the rapid growth of settlements within the district has created the need for expanded electricity coverage to support residents, businesses and social development.
He noted that connecting these emerging communities would contribute significantly to economic growth and improve the quality of life of residents.
Mankranso ECG Office Needs Strengthening
The DCE also expressed appreciation to ECG for deploying personnel to its Mankranso office, which has improved accessibility to electricity-related services for residents.
He, however, appealed to the ECG management to further strengthen the operational capacity of the office by providing additional resources and support to enable staff to respond quickly to challenges.
Hon. Sedik explained that an adequately resourced ECG office would enhance efficiency and ensure residents receive timely assistance whenever they encounter challenges.
ECG Urges Residents To Pay Bills, Stop Illegal Connections.
For his part, Ing. George Amoah urged residents of the district to support ECG’s efforts by paying their electricity bills promptly and avoiding illegal connections.
He stressed that revenue generated from electricity bills plays a critical role in maintaining infrastructure, improving service delivery and ensuring sustainable power supply.
The General Manager warned that illegal connections, popularly known as power theft, undermine efforts to provide reliable electricity and negatively affect the operations of the company.
He called on the District Assembly to assist ECG in educating residents on responsible electricity usage and the need to comply with safety regulations.
Commitment To Development.
The meeting ended with both ECG and the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation to expand electricity access and improve service delivery across the district.
Also present at the engagement were the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Paul Conscious Amagboe, and the District Coordinating Director, Mr Paul Atsu Agbezudor.
The collaboration between ECG and the Assembly is expected to support ongoing efforts to extend electricity infrastructure to underserved communities while ensuring efficient power services for residents.
