As part of ongoing stakeholder engagement for the construction of the new state-of-the-art Tarkwa Community Centre, our dedicated Member of Parliament, Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor, along with the Municipal Coordinating Director, met with the management of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem. Hon. Taylor was accompanied by his Special Aide and the Deputy Constituency Secretary. The Municipal Coordinating Director was joined by the Urban Roads Engineer and three others, while AngloGold Ashanti was represented by the Sustainability Manager, Mr. Stephen Adjei, and his team.
During the meeting, it was agreed that the sod-cutting ceremony to commence the project will take place on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the project site. The project is expected to last one and a half years.
Notably, during his election campaign, Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor pledged to build a state-of-the-art community centre for his constituents. This initiative aligns with AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem’s corporate social responsibility commitments, and the company has agreed to cover the entire cost of the project.
AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem has a history of supporting community development in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality. For instance, in 2017, the company constructed a state-of-the-art social centre for the Bankyim community, featuring a 500-seater hall, offices, changing rooms, and washrooms, at an estimated cost of GH¢432,190.
Additionally, in 2021, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem commissioned a teacher’s quarters for Abompuniso Basic School and an ultra-modern 300-capacity social centre for residents of Timber Road, both in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality, with a total investment of over GH¢1.1 million.
These projects demonstrate the company’s ongoing commitment to the sustainable development of its host communities.
