The Atwima Mponua District Assembly has successfully carried out a district-wide clean-up exercise at Nyinahin as part of government’s renewed drive to improve environmental sanitation across the country.
The exercise, held in response to the directive of President John Dramani Mahama to promote environmental cleanliness and safeguard public health, brought together a broad cross-section of the district, including traditional authorities, Assembly Members, Heads of Departments, security agencies, market women, youth groups, sanitation workers, civil society organisations and residents.
Participants undertook an extensive clean-up of streets, markets, drainage systems and other public spaces to help prevent sanitation-related diseases and create a cleaner environment.
Addressing participants after the exercise, the District Chief Executive for Atwima Mponua commended the overwhelming turnout and praised residents and stakeholders for demonstrating a strong sense of civic responsibility.
He noted that the success of the exercise reflected the collective commitment of the people to improving sanitation and protecting public health.
The DCE expressed gratitude to all individuals, institutions and organisations that contributed to the successful implementation of the exercise, stressing that environmental cleanliness remains a shared responsibility.
He urged residents not to see the exercise as a one-off event but to embrace cleanliness as a daily lifestyle by ensuring proper waste disposal and maintaining clean surroundings at all times.
According to him, sustained sanitation practices are essential to reducing the outbreak of diseases, improving public health and enhancing the overall appearance of communities within the district.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting government initiatives aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and called on citizens to continue working together to make Atwima Mponua one of the cleanest districts in the country.
The clean-up exercise forms part of the government’s broader national sanitation campaign, which seeks to encourage active community participation in keeping towns and cities clean while fostering a healthier environment for all.
