The National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing ongoing health infrastructure projects in the Ashanti Region, with work currently progressing on the road leading to the Oforikrom Hospital.
The contractor, M. Gyebi, is presently on site undertaking work on the access road to the facility, as part of efforts to ensure that the hospital is completed, accessible and eventually opened to the public.
The development forms part of the government’s broader agenda to complete inherited and ongoing projects, particularly critical health infrastructure, and put them to effective use for the benefit of communities.
The Oforikrom Hospital is expected to provide critical healthcare services to residents in the municipality and surrounding communities when completed and operational.
Government officials have indicated that attention is also being given to the road linking the Appiadu–Kokoben Agenda 111 Hospital, where efforts are being made to facilitate access to the facility and support the completion of the project.
Work is also ongoing at Sawua, with the government reiterating its determination to ensure that the various projects are not abandoned but are completed for their intended purposes.
The renewed focus on the projects comes amid calls for governments to prioritise the completion of stalled and ongoing development projects rather than continuously initiating new ones.
The government maintains that completing existing projects and putting them to use remains a key part of its development agenda.
According to the government, the objective is to ensure that investments already made in public infrastructure yield the intended benefits, particularly in sectors such as healthcare where infrastructure plays a critical role in improving access to quality services.
The roads leading to the hospitals are considered important components of the projects, as poor accessibility could undermine the effective use of completed health facilities.
The ongoing road works are therefore expected to improve access for patients, health workers, emergency vehicles and other service providers once the hospitals become operational.
The government’s position is that communities should not continue to wait indefinitely for projects that are already at various stages of completion.
It has consequently pledged to mobilise the necessary resources and work with contractors to complete projects that are considered critical to local development.
The Oforikrom, Appiadu–Kokoben and Sawua projects are among the infrastructure interventions receiving attention as part of the broader effort.
The government has stressed that its priority is clear: to complete ongoing projects, put them to use and deliver the infrastructure that communities deserve.
Residents in the affected communities are consequently expected to continue monitoring the progress of the projects as the government and contractors work towards their completion.
