The incumbent Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Awudu Somaila Romeo, has officially declared his intention to seek a second term in office, citing what he describes as an impressive record of service and commitment to the party.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Punch newspaper, Mr. Romeo outlined a number of achievements he believes have significantly strengthened the NDC’s grassroots structures and contributed to the party’s electoral fortunes in the constituency.
According to him, one of his major contributions was leading the collection and analysis of electoral data, which played a crucial role in the party’s vote maximisation strategy during the last general elections.
He noted that he also spearheaded the planning and coordination of the party’s campaign activities, ensuring effective mobilisation across the constituency.
Mr. Romeo disclosed that he successfully lobbied for motorbikes to support campaign operations and personally distributed mobile phones to all ward coordinators to facilitate effective communication on election day.
He further revealed that he financed transportation for party supporters in the Worapong Electoral Area on election day by paying for tricycles and other means of transport to enable voters to access polling stations.
To support election operations, he said he provided 180 packs of food for pink sheet collectors and election officials working on behalf of the party.
The constituency secretary also stated that he rewarded a hardworking branch member with a bicycle in recognition of dedication to party activities, explaining that the gesture was intended to encourage volunteerism and commitment among party members.
Mr. Romeo added that he assisted Assembly Member candidates with campaign posters during the District Assembly elections and believes his contributions helped the NDC secure four additional Assembly seats in the constituency.
Beyond election activities, he said he has used his office to facilitate the renewal of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards free of charge for many party members, while also paying allowances for call centre personnel who worked during the elections.
He indicated that he distributed party T-shirts to supporters and paid for fuel for motorbikes and tricycles used to transport voters to polling stations on election day.
Reflecting on his tenure, Mr. Romeo stressed that all these interventions were undertaken when the NDC was in opposition and resources were limited.
“These achievements were accomplished while the party was in opposition. Now that the NDC is in government, I believe we can do even more to strengthen the party and improve the welfare of our members,” he said.
He therefore appealed to delegates to renew his mandate, assuring them of greater commitment, innovation and dedication if given another opportunity to serve as Constituency Secretary.
Supporters of Mr.Awudu Somaila Romeo argue that his record of hard work, organisational skills and grassroots mobilisation makes him the right candidate to continue steering the administrative affairs of the party in the constituency ahead of future electoral contests.
