The family of the victims of the July 20, 2022, shooting incident in Bibiani, Western North Region, Ghana, has petitioned the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, to investigate the incident. The petition, which was also copied to other high-ranking officials, including the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Hon. Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, and the Minister of Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, alleges that Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, the Omanhene of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area and President of the National House of Chiefs, conspired with some chiefs and thugs to shoot and kill one Ibrahim Adams and injure several others.
The petitioners claim that the Police in the Western North Region have failed to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, which they believe is due to Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II’s influence as the President of the National House of Chiefs. They have attached videos and pictures as evidence, including footage of Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II distributing guns and bullets to thugs in his private residence.
The family is demanding justice and urging the IGP to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to book. They emphasize that no one is above the law in the Republic of Ghana and hope that their petition will receive the necessary attention.
