At the matriculation ceremony for Course Three of the National College of Defence Studies held at Burma Camp in Accra, Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, delivered a strong call for the deliberate grooming of a new generation of African leaders equipped with the discipline, integrity, and strategic vision required to navigate today’s increasingly complex security landscape.

Addressing an assembly of Ghanaian and international military officers, policy experts, and security professionals, Chief Debrah underscored the critical role of strategic leadership in safeguarding national stability and promoting sustainable development across the continent.

He noted that the evolving threats of terrorism, violent extremism, cyber insecurity, political instability, and transnational crime demand deeper cooperation and stronger coordination among African states.

According to him, Africa’s resilience and future prosperity will largely depend on the continent’s ability to foster collective responsibility and strengthen regional partnerships in addressing emerging security challenges. He urged participants of the prestigious programme to embrace excellence, patriotism, and ethical leadership as they prepare for higher responsibilities in national and international service.
Chief Debrah further reaffirmed the commitment of the government under President John Dramani Mahama to strengthening Ghana’s security architecture and maintaining lasting peace, stability, and resilience. He stressed that the current administration remains focused on building robust institutions capable of protecting the nation’s democratic gains and supporting regional security cooperation.
He reminded the officers that Africa’s future will be shaped by courageous and visionary leaders who are prepared to serve selflessly and uphold the collective interests of their people.

He emphasized that leadership founded on integrity, professionalism, and national service remains essential to preserving the continent’s promise for future generations.

The matriculation ceremony marked the formal commencement of academic and strategic training for Course Three participants, aimed at preparing senior military and civilian officers for leadership roles in defence, governance, and strategic policy management across Africa.
