The District Chief Executive of Fanteakwa South in the Eastern Region, Ntori Adjabeng has been blamed for the mass distraction of water bodies and lands in the district, according to residents.

The DCE was heard saying some licensed small-scale miners were responsible for the muddying of some water bodies in the district but further report has it that the DCE was deeply involved in illegal mining and his boys working for him were responsible for the water pollution and land degradation in the area.

Speaking to some residents of Osino, the district capital, they lamented that,Mr.Adjabeng(DCE) knows very well  that the gold is mostly found along the water bodies and on water beds hence his operations in the buffer area without thinking about the welfare of the district that he serves.

A resident told this online portal that Mr.Ntori Adjaben once said the small-scale miners were people who have been granted permits and so they can’t stop them as an assembly but their responsibility is to make sure that they observe the rules and regulations especially with regards to the buffer zone and this has been a problem to them and DISEC,

Again”When we go to the site together with the EPA, we demarcate the buffer area for them but they tell us that the gold is along the rivers and some are on the bed of the rivers. Some of them even wish they can divert the rivers.”But some of the residents who spoke to this reporter were mad at his statement for thinking about the benefits of the miners without thinking about them(Residents)

It is clear that, illegal miners have destroyed the area and nothing can stop them because they have  the  backing of the DCE and some chiefs.

The activities have  polluted  the Birim river , starting from Kibi, Sagyimase, Asikam and other areas where they use the machine to dredge the bank of the river and pollute the water .
