In a swift response to allegations of insanitary conditions, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and Environmental Health Officers in Kumasi have shut down the Kenkey Mill opposite Adehyeɛ Market, effective immediately.

The decision follows a joint assessment of the premises on Thursday, February 20, 2025, which revealed violations of Section 52 of the Public Health Act and other Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) bye-laws.

The operators were initially directed to cease operations, clean the premises, and await further instructions.

However, a subsequent inspection on Friday, February 21, 2025, found the operators to be non-compliant with the directives, leading to the closure of the premises.

Public Health Concerns

The FDA’s action is aimed at protecting public health and ensuring that food establishments operate in a safe and sanitary environment. The authority urges the general public to be mindful of the food environment when purchasing food and to report any concerns to the relevant authorities.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

The operators of the Kenkey Mill risk facing legal action if they attempt to re-open or operate the premises without clearance from the Environmental Health Department of KMA.

This development highlights the importance of maintaining high standards of sanitation and hygiene in food establishments to ensure public health and safety.
