The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has taken pupils and teachers from Fosu Catholic ‘C’ Basic School in the Central Region through Ghana’s system of governance as part of efforts to promote civic education among young learners.
The Regional Minister welcomed about 70 pupils and 10 teachers from the school to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) when they visited the region as part of an educational excursion.
During an interaction with the pupils, Dr Amoakohene explained the structure and functions of Ghana’s governance system, highlighting the roles of the three arms of government — the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary.
He also educated the pupils on Ghana’s decentralisation framework and the important role played by the RCC in coordinating development programmes, ensuring effective public service delivery and promoting growth across the Ashanti Region.
The Minister described the engagement as an inspiring experience, noting that the enthusiasm and curiosity demonstrated by the pupils reflected their growing interest in leadership, governance and national development.
He said the thoughtful questions posed by the young learners showed their readiness to understand how the country is governed and their desire to contribute to Ghana’s progress.
Dr Amoakohene emphasised the importance of investing in civic education, stressing that exposing children to governance issues at an early age would help nurture responsible, informed and patriotic citizens.
According to him, the future of Ghana depends on the ability of young people to understand their roles and responsibilities as citizens.
“Before a nation’s future is built, its young minds must first understand how their country is governed,” he said.
The visit formed part of the school’s educational excursion aimed at giving pupils practical knowledge and exposure beyond the classroom environment.
The teachers and pupils expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister for taking time off his busy schedule to engage them and provide valuable lessons on governance and leadership.
The engagement is expected to encourage more young people to develop interest in public service, leadership and nation-building as Ghana prepares the next generation of leaders.
