Hon. Prosper Kwaku Addo, Municipal Chief Executive for Krachi West and Dean of Oti MMDCEs, has stressed the significance of financial discipline in delivering quality public services. Speaking to members of the Oti Region District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana, Addo emphasized that careful planning, prudent spending, accurate reporting, and accountability are crucial for achieving goals and ensuring sustainability.

Key Points from MCE’s Address

– Financial Discipline: Essential for delivering quality public services like education, water, sanitation, infrastructure, and security
– Role of Accountants: More than bookkeepers; they’re strategic financial advisors, risk managers, and leaders influencing fund allocation and institutional sustainability
– Budgeting and Expenditure: Accountants must prepare realistic budgets aligned with institutional and national priorities, monitoring expenditures to ensure effective resource utilization

Addo urged accountants to work professionally, honestly, and transparently, obeying rules and regulations while avoiding corruption and misconduct. He emphasized the importance of proactivity and effective work according to guidelines governing their roles.

This emphasis on transparency and accountability comes amid concerns about governance and financial management in some districts. For instance, some Krachi West NDC executives have raised issues about transparency in the vetting process for MCE aspirants .
