MTN Ghana, the leading telecommunication network in Ghana has celebrated thirteen years in Momo service today in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Capital.

The giant telecommunication network says it will not relent in its quest to register SIM holders of the network, even though enthusiasm has dropped after the sim re-registration deadline was extended.

At a launch of a month-long celebration of MTN mobile Money App, in Kumasi, General Manager MTN Northern Business District, Nii Adotey Mingle noted that the network is ready and willing to take the SIM re-registration to the doorstep of customers.

He was however worried of the drop in numbers since the deadline of the SIM re-registration was extendedfrom 31st July to 30th September.

‘‘unfortunately, it’s a Ghanaian thing, as soon as the minister announced that there was an extension the following day there was virtually nobody in our brunches under our tent, so we have to reach out to them, we will continue to reach out to them to make sure that we register that’’ he said.

‘‘let me use the opportunity to call on those who have data devices, MiFi, Wi-Fi, your turbonet all of those things needs to be registered as well, so anybody who has them apart from registering your standard sim card voice calls all your data sims ought to be registered too’’

Mr.Adotey was grateful for the support MTN MoMo has been enjoying over the years in the country and recounted the impact of the platform.

‘‘The MoMo platform has helped and influenced the financial sector greatly, people have been using the platform to pay school fees, other digital services, it’s an enabler for banks, people can withdraw and pay money into their bank account’’

‘‘Going forward we are looking at collaborations with other entities, financial institutions other banking partners to enrich the ecosystem such that whether you are a market trader, driver, whether you are looking for an air ticket, or ordering meal etc you can still use mobile money to make the payment’’ he said

Loyal customers of MTN Mobile Money, who were able to answer certain quizzes about the MoMo App platform and its 13years in existence were rewarded with cash, T-shirts, and MTN souvenirs.
