Nana Kofi Fofie I, the Odikro of Nobeso, has made a passionate appeal to the government and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to intervene in the disconnection of several communities, including Kyeremansa, Kofofiekrom, Amponsakrom, and Prabon, from the national grid.

According to Nana Fofie, a group of four unidentified young men, claiming to be sent by the ECG, were disconnecting electricity wires from the light poles on the outskirts of the communities. Upon interrogation, the men mentioned that one Madam Serwaah had tasked them with the operation.

However, when the police from Boaman were called, the men were arrested and later released.

Nana Fofie noted that the ECG district officer and the contractor denied any knowledge of the operation, which seems strange to the residents.

He urged the government to investigate and find the whereabouts of Madam Serwaah and the reason behind the illegal disconnection.

The disconnection has affected the CHPS compound’s ability to operate effectively, putting the lives of pregnant women visiting the facility, especially at night, at risk. Nana Fofie believes that disconnecting the communities from the national grid could undermine the universal healthcare agenda and education standards.

The Assembly member, Mr. Kwabena Normanyo Emmanuel, also called for a thorough investigation into the perpetrators and their motives.

The residents want to know why the disconnection was done, and if no explanation is provided, the youth may resist any further attempts to disconnect the communities from the national grid.

It’s worth noting that the ECG’s policy allows for disconnection of supply after proper notice, usually for maintenance or repairs . However, in this case, it seems that there was no prior notice or authorization from the ECG.
