The Member Of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region,Dr.Mathew Opoku Prempeh has this morning distributed over three thousand eight -hundred Gas burners to constituency members in his area.
Speaking during the presentation of the items ,Mr Samuel Pyne , Mayor of Kumasi who spoke on his behalf announced that, the motive for the gas burner distribution is to cut down the alarming rate of deforestation and pollution of the environment as a result of burning of charcoals for fuel generation.
According to him,it is government’s policy to ensure that the environment is clean and green and therefore issues that are pertinent to that is crucial that’s why the government has taken it upon itself to distribute gas burners to ensure safety cook and environment clean in the Country.
Hon.Samuel Pyne maintained that,they have selected 19 to 24 Districts in the Country for piloting and is starting from Manhyia South Constituency of which Dr.Mathew Opoku Prempeh is the Member Of Parliament and Minister in charge of energy.
He revealed that,the MP himself would have loved to be present but other actually important program couldn’t permit him and he has to do the presentation on his behalf.
The distribution of the gas burners is to ensure that the use of fire fuel, charcoal are curtailed and be limited so as to ensure pollution free and limit deforestation in the country.
On her part, Madam Yaa Baby of K.O ,one of the beneficiaries thanked the MP for his kind gesture and asked for more developmental projects to be erected in the Constituency.
