As Ramadan approaches, Alhaji Kayaba, the chief of the Nkwanta Zongo community, has made a heartfelt appeal to the government to reconsider the current curfew hours imposed in the area.

The existing curfew, which restricts movement from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am ¹, has become a point of concern for many residents, especially with the spiritual significance of Ramadan approaching.

In a meeting with the chiefs, Alhaji Kayaba emphasized the importance of communal prayers and gatherings during this sacred month.

He noted that the current curfew hours hinder the ability of community members to participate in nightly prayers and Iftar meals, which are essential aspects of Ramadan observance.

“Ramadan is a time for reflection, prayer, and community bonding. The current curfew limits our ability to come together as a community to worship and support one another,” he said.

The chief urged the government to consider a temporary adjustment to the curfew hours during Ramadan, allowing for greater flexibility in the evenings.

He believes that such a change would not only facilitate religious practices but also foster a sense of unity and peace within the community.

Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong has pledged to work closely with the Interior Ministry to explore potential reviews of policies affecting the region.

The minister emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing security and developmental challenges faced by the Oti Region.

The Nkwanta Zongo community remains hopeful that the government will consider their appeal and adjust the curfew hours to accommodate their Ramadan observance.
