NPP MPs will elect their own leadership in Parliament—Asabeee proposes

One of the aspirants of the National Chairman position of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Asamoah Boateng has assured their Members of Parliament (MPs) that they would elect their own leadership in the House under his tenure as National Chairman.

Expressing his view on managing the party in a manner that would help the party to forge ahead in discipline and with purpose, and bring cohesion between the party and the government, Mr. Asamoah Boateng noted that allowing the MPs to elect their own leadership is one sure way of attaining that.

“So our MPs if you are listening to me, you will have the opportunity to select and elect your own leaders under Asabeee chairmanship and bring them to National Council for approval, if required.” He stated.

He made these comments during an interview on GTV’s Breakfast Show last Friday morning.

Mr. Asamoah Boateng noted that losing more MPs during the 2020 elections greatly affected the party adding that there could be smarter ways of retaining people or sending them out of parliament through consensus building without creating confusion

Asabeee, as he is affectionately called explained that if the party identifies someone who needs to be in parliament, he would rather build consensus based on that prospective candidate doing the needful of building relationships in the Constituency first.

He added that if consensus doesn’t work, then a free and fair elections will take place without fear or favour.

He noted that “if we need some particular people [retained] in parliament…we go to the leadership at the Constituency and tell them we need this guy otherwise we will be short of numbers or even capable people in parliament, can you do something about it so that no one challenges him.”

“But before I do that, I’ll go to the person and tell him this is what I’m picking up, go to your constituency, do this, do that, so that they are also okay with their conscience so it’s easier to convince them.” He stressed.

He added that he is worried that our MPs are becoming “endangered species” in our body politics these days.

He was however clear that he was not going to be that type of chairman who would superimpose persons who underperform on the party in the constituency.

Mr. Asamoah Boateng who is a one time MP for Mfansteman constituency has met the Majority Caucus and explained his plans of moving the party to the next level to them.

As a former MP, Asabeee says he appreciates some challenges his colleagues face and the solution would first be, to allow them select or elect their own leadership.

Mr. Asamoah Boateng has been sharing his plans to not only lead the ruling party win election 2024, but introduce disingenuous ways of making the party more formidable.
